A plant of dry, stony ground, garigue, cliffs and walls, with violet or white flowers from March to May. It is found in Malta, Gozo and nearby islands, and is listed as threatened in the Maltese Red Data Book.
Maltese toadflax grows on rocky and stony arid ground: garigue, cliffs and walls. Its flowers are violet or white and open from March to May.
The Online Flora of the Maltese Islands describes it as subendemic, found in Gozo, Malta, Linosa and Lampedusa. It is listed as threatened in the first edition of the Red Data Book of the Maltese Islands.
It is protected by law (Schedule III of S.L. 549.44), and the reference site notes that conserving it requires Special Areas of Conservation to be designated.
How to help
Do not pick or dig up the plant, and keep to paths on rocky ground.
