L-Akaru tal-Wiżgħa ta’ Esther

Esther's Gecko Mite · Geckobia estherae

A mite that lives on the forehead of the Moorish gecko, found only in the Maltese Islands.

Esther's gecko mite is an external parasite. Very little is known about it, except that its preferred host, and perhaps its only host, is the Moorish gecko, a gecko that is native to Malta. It seems to prefer the host's forehead.

It was named in honour of Esther Sciberras, who helped the finder, Arnold Sciberras, in his study of natural history. It was described scientifically in 2012.
