The British feature film The Travel Writer, directed by Heidi Ewing, began filming in Malta in mid-February 2026 for a 25-day shoot. It follows a travel writer who retires to a quiet Sicilian village in 1985 and is drawn into a mystery.

Malta stands in for 1980s Sicily, with scenes in Manikata, Żebbuġ, Dingli, Rabat, Żurrieq and Birgu. Most of the crew are Maltese and Gozitan, and it was one of eight productions filming in Malta at the time.
