An Infrastructure Malta application to uproot protected trees on Triq Bur il-Kbir has been approved.

ERA has approved application EP 0264/26, submitted on behalf of Infrastructure Malta, to uproot more than 10 protected trees on Triq Bur il-Kbir in Siġġiewi. The application went out for public consultation earlier in 2026.

Mature trees give nesting and roosting places, shade and shelter for insects, and hold soil together. A new sapling cannot replace those for many years, so permit conditions such as keeping trees where possible, transplanting them well and monitoring replacements make a real difference.

ERA's public permit register lets residents see and comment on proposals that affect protected trees.
